Relevance of the Indian Education System

India, as a nation of 140 crore population should maintain its dignity in every field through which a 'developing nation' transforms into a 'developed' one. Education is one of the major sector through which India can achieve its dream of being a developed nation.

Talking about the education system of India throughout the years since independence is not up to the mark to be honest.

Pre independence education

We all know that the education system of India pre independence was mostly for the privileged people of high society because it was very costly and not available in all parts of the country. As India was mostly dependent on the farming sector those days, common people of India were lacked awareness about value of education. They considered education to be only the right of privileged or rich people.

The Bengal Renaissance

Even when India was not free, most of the people of Bengal where educated, all thanks to the Bengal Renaissance. The emergence of Swami Vivekananda and other contemporary great scholars boosted the common man of Bengal to have a good quality education and lead decent life. It basically made most of the people rational and aware of what is happening around the world what needs to be done in India to improve the life of the people here. Later, a new breed of educational scholars emerged mostly under the leadership of Shri Ravindra nath Tagore and many others.

Education and the freedom movement

The awareness towards education due to the Bengal Renaissance and other British factors were exponentially increased among the youth of India in late  1920s. Scholars like Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar bought revolution among youth of India in terms of awareness and importance of education. Leaders like Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Rajguru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajendra Prasad, Shri Arvindo Ghosh and many more joined the Indian freedom movement in their own way just because they were educated and rational by thoughts and due to such leaders, the common public of India also insisted to be free enjoy the Indian freedom movement with great spirit and dedication.

Post independence phase of education

As we all know that the Britishers drained and looted all our wealth and resources through which India and Indians lead a better life as it was post the British emergence in India. Due to the poverty and hunger the common people of India could not focus on education. The Government of India then tried hard to make the people aware about education but as it was the British system of Education and mostly it's medium was English, the people were  disinterested in getting the conventional education. 1980-1990s suddenly witness the exponential interest in education mostly to improve the financial condition more than the intellectual one.

The Tech era and after

In the mid 2000s, with the improving technology computers and mobiles, the youth of India took great interest in getting educated not only to improve their intellectual side but also the technological side. Even the kids here the technological advancement through gadgets like laptops and mobiles. Post "jio" emergence in the mobile sector, the data was under the reach of common people of India which actually boosted their interest in education both academically and technically. Now the youth of India is well aware of the schemes and other policies of the government to make their life a secure and standard one through education. The online teaching especially on YouTube and other apps are now a days in great demand of a common student and aspirant of India in their respective fields.

To conclude ..

As most of the people including 'the upper and lower middle class'are well aware and interested in getting education which can help them to develop their skills and bring financial stability to their lives, the governments should be more focused on skill development and employment giving education rather than the old repetitive British education system. Through "the skill India and digital India" program, the Modi government is trying their best to fullfil the aspirations of the youth but it will bring more youth in the educational system if the Education is absolutely free for them even in the private sector educational institutions. The government should focus more on the research best education just like other developed countries like USA China France etc.

To bring India in the league of the developed Nations, it is now  essential to match the developed Nations education system which is in their native languages rather than only in English so that it is more easier for the people here in India to understand and have a 'proud feeling' in whatever field they are getting educated.
